Curriculum:
The Essentials for the Freelance Makeup Artist
Week One covers most of the basic essentials needed to work as a Freelance Makeup Artist; however, some of the essentials specific to a certain specialty will be included in the "Advanced" portions of this course. Example: portfolio building is included in the day for "Advanced Makeup for Fashion and Photography" even though it is "Essential" to your business as a Freelance Makeup Artist. After completing this first week (one day in classroom and weekly homework assignments) student will have a complete understanding of: the career opportunities for freelance makeup artists in the metro Atlanta area; how to choose a career path; the image that is expected of a professional makeup artist; industry terminology; set etiquette; rules for sanitation; the importance of a flawless foundation; and so much more. You will also have the option of being added to Kat's "Assistants List" after completing this first week and all homework assignments included with this week.
Advanced Makeup for Weddings
Week Two the primary focus is on makeup for weddings; however, we will be covering several makeup application techniques that are important for all specialties of makeup applications, not just weddings. For example: lash enhancement is covered in this class but this is a skill that is needed for working in the fashion industry as well. After completing this week (one day in classroom and weekly homework assignments) you will have a complete understanding of: how to market yourself in the bridal market; how to handle the business end including accepting payments and giving receipts; how to schedule and conduct a trial run; lash enhancements; makeup for mature skin; grooming for men; and more.
Advanced Makeup for Fashion & Photography
Week Three the primary focus is on makeup for fashion and photography; however, we will be covering several topics that are important for all specialties of makeup applications, not just fashion photography. For example: we get a little deeper into "Color Theory and Mixology" in this class. This is knowledge that all makeup artists need no matter what specialty they choose but it is covered in this class. After completing this week (one day in classroom and weekly homework assignments) you will have a complete understanding of the basics of makeup for commercial photography (for billboards, magazines, advertisements, etc..) as well as fashion photography such as the fashion layouts you see in magazines; a clear understanding of testing and building your portfolio.
Advanced Makeup for TV & Video Productions
Week Four the primary focus is on makeup for TV and video productions; however, we will be covering several makeup application techniques that are important for all specialties of makeup applications, not just television. For example: the makeup artist that perfects her techniques for hi-definition will never need her work photoshop corrected for print advertising jobs and other photography; therefore becoming the photographer's first choice for booking. After completing this week (one day in classroom and weekly homework assignments) you will have a complete understanding of the artistic and technical skills necessary to become a working media makeup artist. Whether you want to do makeup on television commercials, or video productions, this makeup class will prepare you with the skills needed for makeup applications for HDTV as well as regular TV makeup. This course includes an intro to and a demonstration of airbrushed foundation as well as traditionally applied foundation demonstrations and hands-on student practice.
